ScenePartner alternatives: apps compared honestly

ScenePartner is a solid reader for self-tapes on web and iOS, so the right alternative depends on what it does not give you: an Android app, a lower or one-off price, or feedback on the words you said. We make MasteringTheatre, one of the alternatives below, and we say where ScenePartner and the others beat it. Every competitor fact was checked on 6 October 2026 on the maker's own site or store listing. For the wider field, see the best apps to run lines.

Short answer

Need Android? Linus, ActingPal, blablabla or MasteringTheatre. Want a cheaper subscription? blablabla, Linus, ActingPal or MasteringTheatre, or ActOnCue's pay-as-you-go. Want to know which words you got wrong? Understudy or MasteringTheatre. Need a self-tape camera? Stay with ScenePartner, or try Linus, blablabla or Rehearsed.

What ScenePartner does well

Credit first. According to its site and App Store listing, ScenePartner:

Its published plans: Free with 3 auditions and scripts up to 10 pages; Plus at $12.99 a month for 10 auditions; Pro at $29.99 a month for 100 auditions, 20+ voices and scripts up to 150 pages. If those fit you, you may not need an alternative.

Why actors look elsewhere

We are not quoting reviews here, only what the published facts imply:

  1. No Android app is listed. The site names web and iOS. On an Android phone, you use the browser.
  2. Auditions are counted. Three free, ten a month on Plus. Rehearsing many scenes for a play adds up.
  3. No word check is described. Cue detection moves the scene on; the site does not say it tells you which words you changed.

The alternatives, by what you need

If you are on Android

Linus lists iPhone, iPad, Android and web, with self-tape and a $1.99 three-day pass. ActingPal lists iOS and Android at $9.99 a month; its self-tape recording and teleprompter are marked Android-only. blablabla links to both stores, with self-tape and two free voiced scenes. MasteringTheatre (ours) runs on Android in 10 languages and on iOS in 5.

If price is the problem

blablabla: $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, or one-off packs ($1.49 for 3 scenes, $4.99 for 10). Linus: $9.99 or $19.99 a month. ActOnCue: free line learning and table reads, then $0.35 per hour of interactive self-tape and $0.19 per minute of generated voices. LineLearner: $3.99 once on iOS, but you record every line yourself. MasteringTheatre: a free plan, then €2.99 (Pro) or €4.99 (Premium) per month, store prices vary by country; rehearsing with the phone's own voices uses no energy on any plan.

If you want to know which words you got wrong

Understudy (iOS) shows “how close you are to being off book at the line level after every rehearsal”. MasteringTheatre scores each line as a percentage of text accuracy (≥ 90 % green, ≥ 70 % gold, red below) and, at the end of the scene, colours the words you missed or changed. The score measures the text, not your acting. Why this differs from cue detection: apps that listen to your lines.

MasteringTheatre rehearsal screen: the partner's cue, the actor's line and its accuracy score
Each line gets a percentage once you finish it; the word-by-word review comes at the end.

If you need a self-tape in the same app

Do not switch to us: MasteringTheatre does not film. Linus, blablabla, ActOnCue, ActingPal and Rehearsed (iPhone and web, voices with emotional direction) all describe in-app self-tape recording.

If you want a real castmate's voice

ScenePartner already does this well. Alternatives: ActingPal (record or import audio, record for other users), ActOnCue (bring your own recordings), LineLearner (castmates record and send lines back) and MasteringTheatre voice packs: a partner records their lines once, the file is shared, and the app still listens and scores you. Recording a pack is free; rehearsing with it needs Pro.

What MasteringTheatre does not do

  • It does not film you. For self-tapes, ScenePartner or the apps above are better.
  • No emotion setting for the partner. It reads; you act.
  • No live correction. The score arrives after each line, the coloured words after the scene.
  • Fluid mode is paid. On the free plan you tap Validate after each line.

Questions about switching

Does ScenePartner have an Android app?

On 6 October 2026 its site listed web and iOS only. Android users can run it in the browser, or use an app that lists Android: Linus, ActingPal, blablabla or MasteringTheatre.

What is the cheapest ScenePartner alternative?

Among subscriptions we checked, MasteringTheatre Pro (€2.99 per month; store prices vary by country) and blablabla ($6.99 a month) are lowest; LineLearner costs $3.99 once but has no AI voices. ActOnCue charges by usage. Most have a free tier.

Which alternative is best for self-tapes?

One that films in-app: Linus, blablabla, ActOnCue, Rehearsed, or ActingPal on Android. MasteringTheatre has no camera feature, so it is a line-learning tool to use before you tape.

Can I keep using a friend's recorded voice?

Yes, in several apps: ScenePartner, ActingPal, ActOnCue, LineLearner and MasteringTheatre voice packs. Whether existing recordings come with you depends on the new app: ActingPal and ActOnCue describe importing audio files.

Is MasteringTheatre affiliated with ScenePartner?

No. MasteringTheatre is made by DigIAgram in Nice, France. ScenePartner is a separate product; we only describe what its own site says.
